Album/EP in the works!

Hey all! I figured I’d make a little blog post to update on what’s being worked on right now. As mentioned in the title, I’m preparing a full release! I have been actively working on an EP project for over a year now, with one or two songs on it dating back as far as 3 years ago. I hope to have the EP out by the fall, but I’m not certain it will work out.

I keep referring to it as an EP in this post just for consistency, although to be honest I’m not certain if it will be an EP or a full album. The final release is planned to have 2 instrumental tracks (an intro and an interlude) and 5 songs. Yes, I’m going to record vocals! The tracks aren’t finalized yet, but all have been started except for the introduction, which I’ll compose last. Because of this, I’m not sure if the total runtime will exceed the threshold of an EP or not. If it sits right in the middle, I may choose to add bonus tracks or cut some content so it can better fit in with one of the categories. At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter much what I define it as, so I’m not too worried about it.

I don’t have a set title for the release yet, but I have a few ideas based on the recurring theme of the album, which is night and nighttime. Every song on the album is tied to nighttime in some way. Some songs use it as a metaphor to describe something else or just mention it briefly, but many are about experiences that are directly and literally related to nighttime. In fact, Dusk was originally planned to be on it! The compositional direction ended up going really far from Dusk stylistically, so it’s been cut from the main project due to not fitting in (it still could be a bonus track though). Another theme that came up as I was working on this project was my apparent inability to sleep. I couldn’t stop mentioning it in lyrics and have had to really struggle with coming up with unique ways of saying it (or finding other things to say instead) to prevent it from becoming redundant. I’m still choosing to lean into it a bit as a theme, despite my anxieties that people will get annoyed about it. It’s my art, and I have something to say so I’ll say it! I just have to be smart about it.

As I get closer to having the songs completed, I’ll announce the track list, album art, and a few singles before the main release to keep the views and plays coming. In the meantime, keep enjoying “Dusk” and “Day in the Woods”! And share with your friends, or anyone else who you believe may be interested in the that type of music. I understand the appeal of those tracks is a little more niche, which is why I’m so excited to be preparing something that’s just as true to me and my style but has much more potential for mainstream appeal.

See ya!
